Development economist, Okonjo-Iweala’s hope raised for coveted WTO office 

President Muhammadu Buhari has again assured Nigeria’s renowned economist,Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of his administration”s support for her emergence as the next Director General of the World Trade Organisation WTO.

The President gave the assurance when she paid him a thank you visit at the Presidential Villa , Abuja.

Buhari told the former Finance minister that the country will do all it can to ensure that she emerged the winner.

The president described Okonjo-Iweala as someone who has carved a niche for herself in service to her country and the world and deserves the job.

, The president said’ I assure you that we will do all that we can to ensure that you emerge as the Director General of WTO,not only because you are a Nigerian,but because you are a hard working Nigerian.You deserve this”

In her remarks, Okonjo-Iweala thanked the President and members of his cabinet particularly the Minister of foreign affairs and Minister of Industry Trade and Investment for their support.

Okonjo-Iweala is contestting against 53 year -old South Korean current Minister for Trade,Yoo Myung-hee

Myung-hee is the first woman in the history of that country to occupy the position of Trade Minister.
