Isiokpo, an ancient town housing the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers state was a beehive of activities on Saturday following the funeral service of an illustrious son, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba and Son Chizi.
Wigwe, and two of his family members were among six people who died after the Eurocopter EC130 in which they were travelling crashed near Nipton, California,USA on Friday 9th February 2024
Until his death, Wigwe was the Chairman/ CEO of Access Holdings and Founder of Wigwe University..
Several dignitaries attended the nights of tributes in Lagos and funeral at Isiokpo his home town.
At the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG Lion of Judah parish, Isiokpo, the Rivers State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara spoke about the vanity of life..
Fubara, who lauded the contributions of Wigwe to society within the short time he lived said that life is not about one living a million years but how well, and the impact created that matters.
The governor drew the attention of all to the transient nature of life and wondered why people knowing that,would resort to killing or make life a living hell for others
.
Other dignitaries who attended the funeral included the Senate President,Godswill Akpabio,Governors of Akwa Ibom state, Governor Umo Eno, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa, Governor Alex Otti of Abia, Former Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanisu,Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi..
On Friday, there was a Christian wake in honour of the departed in Omueke,Isiokpo which also had clusters of very important dignitaries in attendance.
Some of those who attended included the Presidential candidate of the Labour party in 2023 General election,Mr Peter Obi, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminilayi Fubara.
