Governor Obaseki Joins The Peoples Democratic Party to seek re-election
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has joined the Peoples Democratic party after a period of consultation with the foremost opposition party
The governor announced his decision to join the party at the party secretariat in Benin city, Edo State on Friday.
The Governor had resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress as a result of his disqualification by the Party for discrepancies in his credentials
The Peoples Democratic Party may have given Obaseki the waiver he needs to fly the party flag along with his deputy.
On account of this, the party shifted its primary election earlier scheduled for June 20 to June 23.
That would mean that the party would have less than five days to submit the names of nominated candidates.
Along with the Governor joining the PDP are 18 local government chairmen and 196 councilors
The mode of the primary election of the PDP in Edo has already been decided as the party has settled for indirect primary.
One thing going for the governor however is the groundswell of support from the PDP governors and other men of influence.
Top on the list of those who make up his support base are Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku has described Obaseki’s move to the party as good for the party as he said Edo will be better off with the governor in the PDP.
With his likely top challenger Ize Iyamu facing legal challenges, and his worst nightmare, Adams Oshiomole suspended from the APC, there is the likelihood that Obaseki will have a smooth ride to victory.
The clock is ticking for Inec deadline on nominations, and analysts of political development in the country are in limbo over what would befall the governor should he win the gubernatorial polls
And the issues raised are the reasons of Obaseki’s disqualification by the APC. , They argued that that if the reasons APC adduced for his disqualification were germane, then how would the PDP tackle that?
In a nation where elections are becoming defined by court actions, what will happen if his challengers take him to
court? and what is the role of lnec in all of this?
Meantime a meeting called by the PDP in Benin City to persuade aspirants who have already been screened to step down for the governor has met stiff resistance .
One of the front runners Kenneth Imasuagbon is reported to have walked out of the meeting. Another aspirant Ogbeide Ihama has said in his campaign message that he is not stepping down.
What more hurdles will the governor face?
Obviously the coming days have a lot to tell.

The cancellation of the screening is coming barely 24hours of Governor Obaseki’s resignation from the APC.
Although Governor Obaseki announced his resignation, from the party, he did not say that he has defected to another party.

The Appeal committeel the party constituted also upheld his disqualification.
Concerned Nigerians have expressed worry over the unfolding drama around the Edo political scene before the polls scheduled for September 19.
The governor’s decision to quit makes the picture of his next line of action clearer.
The opposition party the PDP has seen a beautiful bride in Obaseki to court and it is not leaving any stone unturned in wooing him over to the party.
Many Nigeria think that the decision by the APC to disqualify the Edo Governor was carried out in bad faith, they wondered how squabble between the National Chairman and the governor could lead to irreconcilable differences which played a major role in the screening and disqualification.
Among prominent Nigerians who have frowned against the development in APC is Niger Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark who warned that the APC refuses to learn from history to correct its mistakes.describesAPC’sAppeal committee decision as illegitimate adding’ it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth’
He recalled that the party’s decision before the 2019 general elections made her lose key States to the opposition party.
The States lost to the opposition are Bauchi, Zamfara, Rivers, and Adamawa.
Although the APC has insisted that it will organise its primary employing the direct option, to select its flagbearer, the ticket appears settled for Ize Iyamu who recently defected from the PDP
was Obaseki’s Challenger in the last Edo gubernatorial Elections.
And where the governor picks the PDP ticket,it will be a replay of events in the Edo Elections about 3years ago.
Governor Obaseki has disclosed that he will seek re-election on another party platform after consulting with his supporters.
Black Lives Matter Movement Records Gains
Black Life Matters movement defies a second wave of Coronavirus and march on major cities in the United States of America to protest racial inequity
The march which started three weeks ago in the wake of the gruesome killing of unarmed black man George Floyd is becoming a movement that could chart a new direction for the world’s largest economy.
The United States has a GDP of $20.51trillion making it the wealthiest in the World.
But galvanized protests against systemic racism and Police brutality alongside a pandemic that appears unending have exposed the US inadequacies in protection of human rights to the world.
United States is a big brother to countries with challenges that include Health, Education, Natural disasters, Elections and Human Right Violations.
But with what is happening now in the States it is difficult to understand whyt the leading country of the world has a worst case scenario of abuses it champions to fight in other countries.
The US Criminal Justice System empowered the Police who operate distinctively to enforce law and order at the Federal, State and county levels to use force and coercion on perceived offenders of the law.
Recent findings indicated lower crime rate in areas where police operations were disallowed in comparison to other areas that have overwhelming Police presence.
That goes to show that the inhuman treatment by the law enforcement agencies on the minority population, coupled with the economic differences led to high crime rate in the country.
Economic differentials between White and Black is put at a ratio of 10 to 1. That is to say that the
Whites earn about ten times more than the blacks.
The United Nations which the United States is a signatory to binding agreement proclaimed in Article one of its charter on Human Rights that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
If the proclamation is anything at all, then countries need to take it seriously no matter how highly placed.
A racist government is discriminatory,it is insensitive to the plights of others, and rebellion mainly is the product of such wicked government
The Blacks life Matters protesters are expressing their objection to government policies that thrive on racial discrimination, They are expressing disapproval to arbitrary arrest, detention and killing,
They are expressing their disapproval to inequality in dehumanizing housing and healthcare..
Good governments feel the pulses of the people and act in a manner that engender patriotism, and garners superlative growth.
The good thing in the protests is that it has gone beyond an African American problem as people of all colours have identified with the course marching in the rain and sun.
The protests which is entering the fourth week is increasing in numbers every day.with some gains recorded in police reforms and some percentage in employment reserved for blacks in some corporate organisations.
There is no gain saying the fact that a New America is emerging in line with the faith in the fundamental human rights in the dignity and worth of the human person
A new country is evolving where human rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world
To say that racism a belief is domiciled in America alone would be a misconception as many countries still invoke laws that racially discriminates.
Great Britain ,a colonial master to many third world countries recently aligned with the thoughts of Black Life Matters protesters in the United kingdom by planning to set a commission that would look into racial inequities in Education, Employment and a lot more.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson who disclosed it to newsmen expressed optimism to address matters ofi nequality
However with series of protests and pandemic spikes striking America in an Election year, with President Trump unable to fix both problems, The polls appear not to be in favor of his political party -Republican Party as recent polls show a clear shift to the Democrats.

Governor Obaseki may make his next plan of action clear anytime this week following his disqualification by the ruling party, The All Progressive Congress (APC) to contest in the forth coming general elections in Edo State on the Party’s platform as deadline for the primary draws closer.

Reports reaching us indicate that the Governor might go in the direction of the PDP.
Governor Obaseki had this weekend visited Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in Port Harcourt.
The meeting of the governors behind closed doors fuelled speculation about the developing line of thinking which is ‘that the Edo State Governor might not give up recontesting just like that’
Moments after news of his disqualification by the APC made headlines, the Governor had reacted describing the screening as a travesty of justice,a that he would not appeal the verdict.
Governor Obaseki’s unwillingness to appeal generated doubts about his next step, while many were of the view that he would defect to PDP, others thought he would contest on SDP or ADP platforms.
However his supporters expressed optimism that he will seek re-election on another Party’s platform.
The All Progressive Congress chairman in Edo State,Anselm Ojezuai told newsmen that although APC may have shut it’s doors to the governor, that it does not mean that He won’t be contesting the elections as there were other platforms open to him.
The same day ,PDP party’s top members began wooing the Governor of Edo State to join the main opposition party.
Prominent among PDP early callers was a former Vice president of the country and Presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general elections,Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
In the line of those who are courting the Governor to join the party is Governor Wike.
In the days ahead it will be clear where the re-election pendulum will swing to but it is becoming certain that the governor is on the march to retaining his seat.
The Edo Governor and his predeccesor Adams Oshiomole have been at each other’s jugular for a couple of years ,a disturbing situation which many believe was caused by selfish motives and supremacy.
Attempts made to reconcile the warring parties by party members and other influential Nigerians met a brick wall.
The Independent National Elections Commission(INEC) has fixed September 19,2020 for Election of governor of Edo state and October 10 for Ondo State.
While the APC opted for direct primaries as mode of conducting it’s elections, the People’s Democratic party and 13 others settled for indirect Primaries.
The conduct of the primaries must be in compliance with the
1999 Constitution and the 2010 Electoral act,INEC spokesman Festus Okoye says.
APC Knocks out Governor Obaseki and 2 Others.
