Katsina community says it raised N6.6million as ransom for release of 26 abducted girls
A few hours after the governmentt of Zamfara State claimed that it secured the release of 26 girls through negotiation without payment of ransom,a community in Katsina State has countered the Zamfara government claim saying that it paid money to secure the release of the girls.
The Head of the Dan-Aji village where the 26 girls were kidnapped by the bandits, Alhaji Lawan Dogara told newsmen that the community paid N6.6 million through two leaders of the community who were delegated to deliver the money to the bandits in the forest
The 26 girls were abducted from different houses in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on October 13 and released on November 3 ,2020.
The girls comprising, children including divorced and widows were made to live with their captors in the forest for 33 days.
The Zamfara State government delegation led by the Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs, Abubakar Dauran had handed over the girls to the Katsina State government after claims by the Special Adviser to the governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication,Zailani Bappa that the girls were released after dialogue with the bandits
