The Seven-Member visitation panel on the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has expressed optimism that its recommendation will bring about an end to the crisis in the university as well as other institutions going through the same problem.
The Chairman of the panel,Prof, Tukur Sa’ad who stated this during the submission of the report to the Minister of Education of Education,Malam Adamu Adamu in his office on Thursday in Abuja said the panel has made some contributions towards resolving the problem of the University of Lagos and towards preventing similar problems in other Universities all over the country.
In his response, the Minister, Adamu, said the visitor of the university after due consideration of the report will take a decision on the matter inorder to restore peace and conducive learning atmosphere in the university of lagos and the university system as a whole.
The University of Lagos was embroiled in internal crisis for over a year which led to Presidential order asking prime actors ,Dr Wale Babalakin, pro Chancellor and Professor Toyjn Ogundipe , Vice Chancellor in the institution to step aside while directing the institution to elect an acting Vice Chancellor of the University to fill the vacuum.
Meanwhile,Babalakin on Thursday, resigned as Pro Chancellor of UNILAG saying some of the Vice Chancellors who made up the panel were from relatively smaller universities whose actions showed that they were interested in exonerating the sacked Vice Chancellor, Professor Ogundipe.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Education, Babalakin accused the visitation panel of bias adding that members do not understand the working of bigger institutions like the University of Lagos
