Yesterday, Ikwerre LGA indigenes and residents turned out in their numbers to declare our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign in Rivers State.
Over seven thousand (7,000) of us officially accredited for the event sat, and some stood, within the limited area assigned to the LGA by the Campaign Committee. Outside the venue were many more than that number, who hovered around because they could not gain access. By 8am, every accredited delegate from Ikwerre LGA was already seated or standing in the arena, and they remained there until the event ended past 2pm.
We wanted to make a statement, and it was loud and clear. For anyone who is still in doubt, IKWERRE LGA is well mobilized for President Tinubu, the Governorship candidate of the APC, Rep. Ogundu Kingsley (OK) Chinda, and every single candidate of the RAINBOW 🌈 COALITION.
This is our time to respond to, and pay back, the one politician from our Ikwerre LGA who left our people impoverished and undeveloped, and who deprived us of the enlightened self-interest and invaluable political investments we made in him over the years.
We variously sacrificed our precious time and resources, and some even paid the supreme sacrifice of death, to develop Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi into the man he became and to help him attain the political positions he held. What did the LGA get in return? NOBODY FROM IKWERRE MUST GROW OR GET TO THE LIMELIGHT, except one. Our people got nothing for their priceless sacrifices other than gaslighting and lies.
Rather, he WEAPONIZED POVERTY and used it remorselessly against the Ikwerre people, believing and hoping that it would keep them in servitude forever. It is to keep up with, and continue to sharpen, his “poverty weapon on his people” that you hear him say things like: “I cannot buy diesel for my generator”; “my wife uses my backup car”; “my wife sustains me”; “I could not buy medication for my mother.”
The greatest irony is that the “poor” man’s house has never been out of electricity, even without government power. The mother who could not be treated to “a luxury of medication” because of the cost was eventually given an exceptional “society” burial costing hundreds of millions of naira.
IKWERRE LGA yields no more to deceit and gaslighting. We have emancipated ourselves from mental slavery. We have resolved to fall back on our local measure of compensation and balancing force of living in Ikwerre nation: “NGWETA.” It is a measure for peaceful communal living: you do for me, I do for you; you love me, I love you; you hate me, I hate you. We will no longer support the one who does not support or care about our personal and communal development.
IKWERRE LGA, and indeed the entire Ikwerre nationality, support CHIEF EZENWO NYESOM WIKE, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He has shown that he is a better brother, more committed to brotherhood and to the principle of gratitude and NGWETA.
We support EZENWO NYESOM WIKE and all the RAINBOW 🌈 COALITION candidates. This is our message to the nooks and crannies of Ikwerre LGA.
I appreciate and thank all those who attended the APC rally from Ikwerre LGA.
Achi William-Wobodo Ogbodo/Isiokpo, IKWERRE LGA
