The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, has commenced Investigation into allegations of diversion of public funds against the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Professor Daniel Pondei.
The Minister and Pondei are being investigated over alleged N40BILLION misappropriation in the Commission.
The EFCC position was contained in an acknowledgement letter to a petition it received from the foundation for true freedom and good governance .
The petition signed by the convener,Deji Adeyanju had requested the Commission to investigate the allegations against the Minister and the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC.
The lEFCC letter in response to the petition reads “We write to acknowledge the receipt of your petition dates 3rd August 2020 in respect of the above subject and to inform you that Investigation info the case has commenced.”
The letter by the head, Economic Governance of the Crime Commission, Adebayo Adeniyi further reads” In view of the above you are kindly requested to attend an interview with the
undersigned through O/C team 6 on Thursday, August 20th at the EFCC headquarters,Jabi, Abuja.”
Akpabio had said he had no skeleton in his cupboard and is prepared to face any probe of the NDDC
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary,Aniete Ekong said “the probe along with the ongoing forensic audit will expose those who have used their exalted positions over the years to fleece the NDDC through fully paid contracts which were never executed.”
The statement further clarifies “under the supervision of Senator Akpabio,there has been no corruption in the NDDC”.
