Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki has said that all interstate transport operators are to apply and approval given in satisfaction of the defined guidelines of the ministry of transportation before they would be allowed to operate.
Saraki disclosed this on Thursday at a virtual meeting with the Forum of Nigerian Transport Commissioners.
She said that it was resolved that the implementation of the guidelines prepared by the the Ministry of Transportation be adopted to minimise the transmission of Covid-19.
The Federal Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Transportation at State and FCT level will regularly monitor the implementation and compliance with the guidelines as well as the impact on safety and minimising the transmission of Covid-19.
She said the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 had on Monday allowed the reopening of interstate travel with stringent measures which included reducing seating capacity, other health and safety measures.
The government guidelines has caused reactions from the operators of the interstate transport who said they would need to hike prices to meet obligations.
Some commuters who went to the bus terminals to take advantage of the reopening on July 1,met almost 100% hike in transport fares.
