The Ugandan Athletics Federation on Thursday confirmed the passing of Marathon runner, Rebecca Cheptegei, whose boyfriend set fire to her using a jerry can of gasoline at her house in Western Trans Nzoi County in Kenya.
Cheptegei 33, participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics and finished 44th in the Women’s marathon.
The Athletic Federation wrote on X “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our athlete, Rebecca Cheptegei early this morning who tragically fell victim to domestic violence.”
” As a federation,we xcondemn such acts and call for justice. May her soul rest in Peace”
Cheptegei was said to have suffered multi- organ failure late Wednesday.
