US House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy has been removed from the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
McCarthy was ousted following failure to secure the majority of votes on a motion to remove him from office
McCarthy58, is the first Speaker in US history to be forced out by members of his own party.
A group of eight Republicans joined the Democrats to vote McCarthy out of the job.

Meanwhile the House Republicans have chosen Patrick McHenry of North Carolina as Speaker in the interim while meetings are ongoing to elect a new Speaker .
