
The Rivers State Government has recognized the new Oba, Eze-Ogba of Ogbaland, Nwachukwu Nnam Obuohna Obi III as First Class Traditional Ruler in the state.
The recognition was accorded to the new Oba, Eze-Ogba of Ogbaland during his formal introduction to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Exempt Wike, performed by the Traditional Prime Minister of Ogbaland, Eze Louis Ajie when stakeholders of Ogba Ethnic Nationality in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni visited the Governor at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike directed the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Zaccheaus Adangor and his Chieftaincy Affairs counterpart, Sunny Ejekwu to prepare the certificate of recognition as a First Class Traditional Ruler and Staff of Office to the Oba, Eze-Ogbaland, Nwachukwu Nnam Obuohna Obi III.
Governor Wike who recalled the peaceful reign of his late father, Chukumela Nnam Obi II, whom he described as a man of peace and high intellect, who carried out his office and gave the dignity everybody respected, urged the new monarch to follow his footsteps and ensure that peace reign supreme in his kingdom.
“Your late father during his reign, carried out the office and gave it the dignity everybody respected. He was a man of peace and high intellect. Please carry on with the way he presided over the affairs his kingdom”, he noted.
The Governor also admonished him not to toe the part of violence, rather dialogue while dealing with multi national corporations in his domain.
While noting that government government cannot function effectively in an atmosphere devoid of peace, Governor Wike also urged the Oba, Eze-Ogba of Ogbaland to always consult with government on issues affecting his kingdom and oil companies operating in the area, rather than taking laws into his hands, saying government will not tolerate such behaviors.
“Government cannot function effectively without peace in the state. No community can also do it alone, rather they need government support. If you did not let government know your grievances and you take laws into you hands while dealing with companies, I will not be happy with you”. He observed.
In his remarks, the Oba, Eze-Ogba of Ogbaland, Nwachukwu Nnam Obuohna Obi III, lauded Governor Wike for the recognition.
Eze Nwachukwu Nnam Obuohna Obi III who described Governor Wike as a man of valour, a voice for the voiceless and who cannot be intimidated also thanked him for the state burial accorded his late father, Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi II, restoring peace in Omoku and the various projects embarked upon in the area.
