Babayo Maisanda, Controller of Correctional Services in Edo State says a number of facilities were destroyed in Monday’s jail break which saw over 2000 inmates escaped.
Maisanda said 10 officers of the service sustained injuries during their encounter with the hoodlums.
According to him, the hoodlums overpowered the officers and operated for more than six hours.
He however said 163 of the inmates have been recaptured while 1,818 are still on the run.
The Edo state goveernor ,Godwin Obaseki has given the fleeing inmates until Friday, October 23,2020, to return.
The governor gave the ultimatum while inspecting the corectioal centres and police facilities destroyed by hoodlums.
Obaseki had imposed a 24 hour curfew in all parts of the state following Monday’s mayhem in Benin City.
