A judge in the United States has ordered that all evidence connected to Christa Pike’s failed execution be preserved.
In a split decision last week, six against three justices of the Supreme Court allowed the execution of Christa Gail Pike in Tennessee overturning last – minute stay issued.
Pike 50 was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of 19-year -old classmate,, Colleen Slemmer
She was on the death row for 3 decades and survived two full lethal injections. The execution was brought to a halt and she was rushed to a hospital unconscious and reportedly in the ICU receiving treatment.
Following the failed execution protocol, Governor Bill Lee ordered the remaining execution in the state frozen for the rest of the year .
Dr Joel Zivot, consulting with Pike’s legal team reportedly said ” She is off the ventilator, awake, communicating,knows her name and has some memories of being in the hospital but did not remember the execution
Reports indicate that one of hers hands is swollen like a balloon.
PIKE HANDWRITTEN MESSAGE AHEAD OF HER SCHEDULED EXECUTION
“I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who has supported me through these hard days. I’ve felt more love in the last two weeks than I have my entire life. Though there was an absence — when my people showed up for me — they have showed up and showed out! I am humbled beyond words. Whether my clemency is granted or not, I am at peace. I am not afraid to die. I’m only nervous about the process. I want to thank everyone for their time and attention in exposing my true character above the limited public persona that has been the only narrative. Also thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak in my own words! I wish you love & kindness, Christa Gail Pike.”
The message was released on September 29 before her execution day.
