Armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen reportedly killed four persons,while another,a farmer was also beheaded by them in renewed attacks on Governor Samuel Ortom’s hometown, Tse-Apera,Nzorov,Guma local government area of Benue State.
The herdsmen were said to have stormed the village at about 5 am on Sunday, shooting sporadically when people were still asleep.The sound of the gunfire woke the people up forcing many to run for safety while others hid in their homes.
Current matterrs learnt that the armed men spoke Fulani language while knocking on the doors of the villagers.They shot the people that came out and those who refused to come out were forced out of their houses and killed.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of Guma local government area,Caleb Abah, said he received reports that armed herdsmen had attacked the village of Tse-Apera and shot at the people that came out.For those who did not come out,they were dragged out and killed.
According to him, the herdsmen killed two on the spot and beheaded one while seriously injuring eight others.Six of the those injured were taken to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH,Makurdi and two to General Hospital in Gbamjimba unfortunately one of those taken to the BSUTH died on Monday morning.
Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene confirmed the attack but said the command had a record of two deaths and five injured victims.
