The Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, may lose his Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN )title any time if the petition by lawyers against him holds sway.
Malami had a few days after a splinter group of the Nigerian Bar Association energed, amended the rules of professional conduct for legal practitioners.(RPC) 2007.
The New NBA had written a petition to Malami asking the Federal Ministry of Justice to recognise it as a decision making body of lawyers in the country.
The group manly from the north ,whose emergence was announced after the NBA dusinvited the governor of Kaduna State,Nasir El-Rufai as one of the speakers in its conference, expressed no fear about being recognised by Malami.
The AGF is alleged to have removed the requirement for the NBA stamp and seal on court processes without recourse to proper consultation and creating room for non- lawyers to submit court processes.
In the petition titled”Sign to strip Nigeria’s AGF, Abubakar Malami the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria” the lawyers said “Since his assumption of Office as the Attorney- General of the Federation he has continued to go rogue, from his disobedience to court order, to his lacklustre prosecution, to his outright failure to prosecute to allegations of corruption and bias against his person, to usurpation of office, to shielding of suspects to his general dereliction of duty.”
