The governor of Edo State,Godwin Obaseki says he was one of those that helped Oshiomole become governor of Edo State.
Obaseki who is the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic party PDP, in next Saturday’s governoship election in Edo State stated this during a debate by Channels Television titled: Edo Governorship debate.
He said, Oshiomhole had no money to contest for election,so he (Obaseki) engineered the process of financing the election as well as developing economic blue print for his administration which was the reason he threw his weight behind him when he declared his intention to succeed him in office.
” Having left Labour he had no money and he didn’t even live in Edo State, putting together a coterie of friends he was able to prosecute his ambition. And we supported him and put together the plan for the administration and for 8 years I worked probono to make sure he succeeded
Having succeeded, and worked very closely with him it was clear that I could continue with the plan I had given to him.And that was why he was encouraged to support my coming in as governor.
Having become goernor,he had his own personal agenda and thought that I would be so subservient and he didn’t realise that I would as independent as I have become.
That may have angered him to now feel that he is a a godfather that can stop me”
On the controversy surrounding his educational qualification, the governor expressed regret the situation where those who do not have certificates would have the effontry to query certificates of others.
He said” it is very ironic that somebody who has no certificate, who has no evidence of going to school properly can stand out and comment on certificate and admissions issued by a premier university in Nigeria.
“That is rather a situation and sad testimony we have found ourselves in as a country.”In 1976 when I gained admission into the University of Ibadan, there was no JAMB.You could either go to the University by Prelim or through Direct Entry by taking your Advanced Level Examinations.I took my o’ levels I did my advanced levels and it was based on my scores from my Advanced Levels that the University of Ibadan in 1976, awarded me a space to study in the Faculty of Arts.
” I don’t know what has happened but for the University of Ibadan the standards were and are still very very high. And they have come out to say that I graduated from that University how else do you want the air cleared.?
” It is a very very sad testimony ln a country like Nigeria,we find some people who do not have the qualification have the effontry to challenge the qualifications of those who went to proper schools.I think its sad.I hope this has cleared the air.” He added.
