
Officers of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested 648 beggars for violating the regulation on avenue begging.
The Spokesman of the board,Lawan Ibrahim said 416 of the beggars are female and 232 male in a raid around areas within the metropolis including Nassarawa hospital,Bata space Murtala Muhammad method, Railway station and Yahuza Suya junction.
According to him, those arrested have been screened and some of them who were first time offenders would be handed over to members of their families while those who are habitual offenders would be charged to court.
Ibrahim disclosed that the board will not hesitate to arrest beggars who refused to comply with the regulation adding that it is determined to “make Kano streets beggar free”.
