The Minister of Labour and Employment Dr Chris Ngige has accused the suspended management staff of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF of stealing N,48billion.
Ngige made the accusation on Tuesday while briefing the House of Representatives ad-hoc commitee on”The arbitrary breach of Presidential directives on the suspension of top management and executive committee members of the NSITF and other government agencies by ministers.”
The Minister said the suspended Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adebayo Somefun and other officials of the Fund allegedly misappropriated N48BILLION without payment of salaries, allowances and other entitlements of stuff of the NSITF.
According to the minister, the suspension of the officials was in line with public service administrative procedure on issues of corruption and lack of transparency
Ngige further told the lawmakers that a preliminary report of the Economic and Financial Commission EFCC, revealed that the sum of N48BILLION had been stolen from the coffers of the NSITF and investigation indicated that the suspended officials were guilty.
He said that a past Chairman of the Agency has forfeited the sum of N46milion to the federal government adding that that was the situation he inherited.
