Members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have objected to a bill before the United States Congress, titled H.R. 7457 – Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, describing it as legally unjust

The association said this while addressing journalists in Abuja, it kicked against the proposed legislation, maintaining that associating its members with terrorists and mass atrocities in Nigeria is both unfounded and injurious to the integrity of MACBAN -a duly registered national association.

In view of this, the President of MACBAN, Othman Ngelzarma, urged the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to urgently engage with U.S. lawmakers through diplomatic channels to correct what he described as false insinuations.

The bill ntroduced by Chris Smith, Riley Moore, Brian Mast, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Bill Huizenga.seeks to impose sanctions on the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, for alleged violations of religious freedom.

The sanctions, include a visa ban and asset freeze, on “individuals or entities responsible for severe religious freedom violations” in Nigeria.
