Renowned American gospel singer, worship leader and Pastor, Ron Kenoly, has passed away at the age of 81, drawing heartfelt tributes from Christian communities across the world.
An end to an intriguing musical era, Kenoly’s death was confirmed on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, prompting an outpouring of condolences from gospel artistes, worship leaders, churches and fans who described him as a trailblazer in contemporary praise and worship music.
Widely celebrated for his vibrant live worship recordings, Kenoly was instrumental in shaping modern praise music and taking it beyond church walls to a global audience.
His ministry transcended cultural and geographical boundaries, with his songs becoming staples in churches across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Born on 6 December 1944 in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly rose to international prominence in the late 20th century.
He gained widespread recognition with the release of Lift Him Up With Ron Kenoly in 1992, an album credited with redefining contemporary praise worship.
Songs such as Ancient of Days, Jesus Is Alive and We’re Going Up became enduring worship anthems sung in congregations worldwide.
Over the course of his illustrious career, Kenoly released more than 20 albums, including God Is Able, Sing Out With One Voice and Welcome Home.
Known for his energetic, choir-backed performances and participatory worship style, he seamlessly blended gospel, praise and contemporary Christian music, influencing generations of worship leaders and church musicians.
Beyond his music, Kenoly was a respected Pastor and worship leader who served prominently at Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California.
