In what appears to be a major political development ahead of the 2027 general election, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has held back-to-back private meetings with two influential northern politicians, former Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, and former Kaduna State Governor and SDP chieftain, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Obi reportedly met Dr. Babangida Aliyu at his Abuja residence earlier today, Friday, just hours later, he was sighted at El-Rufai’s residence in another closed-door session.
These high-level consultations come amid intensifying moves by some key leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are lobbying to bring Peter Obi back into the party’s fold, possibly positioning him as a consensus presidential candidate for 2027.
Though none of the parties have officially commented on the nature of the meetings, political analysts believe the moves signal early strategic alignments that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape in the coming months.
Obi, a former Anambra State governor, left the PDP in 2022 to contest under the Labour Party in 2023 presidential election.
