Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, First Female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has resigned.
She reportedly resigned during plenary on Monday.
Meranda was elected Speaker on January 13 by no fewer than 28 lawmakers following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.
Obasa who was said to be on holidays abroad quickly returned to canvass the return of his office.. He claimed that he was still the Speaker and allegedly invaded the office of Meranda with security agencies after filing a suit challenging his removal from office.
Worried by the unfolding scenario, the 28 lawmakers were in court Friday for hearing of the matter.
On Monday,March 3, the 28 lawmakers loyal to Meranda and Obasa gathered for plenary. It was gathered that chieftains of the All Progressives Congress APC were also at the venue for talks to end the dispute in the house.
According to our findings, Meranda resigned as Speaker after a meeting with Obasa, Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the APC, and Lawal Pedro, the Attorney General of the state and paved the way for Obasa ‘s reinstatement
