
….One as Resident Electoral Commissioner
Nigerian Senate has confirmed six persons as National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
The confirmation made on Wednesday also has a Resident Electoral Commissioner.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on December 10,2021 forwarded a letter comprising the names of the nominees to the National Assembly for confirmation.
The confirmed persons are Mai Mohammed Haruna,( National Commissioner ( Niger, North Central); Mrs May Agbamuche – Mbu ( Delta, South South); Ukeagu Kenneth Nnamdi ( Abia, South East); and Major General A. . Alkali rtd, ( Adamawa, North East)
Also confirmed are Engr.(Prof) Rhoda H. Gumus ( Bayelsa, South South) and Mr Sam Olumekan ( Ondo, South West).
The upper legislative chamber confirmed Olaniyi Olaleye Ijaleye ( Ondo , South West) as Resident Electoral Commissioner.
Earlier, the Senate Committee on INEC had presented a report clearing the nominees for confirmation.
The Committee chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya said all nominees are non- card- carrying members of any political party in the country and have been found worthy for the appointment.
In his remarks, Senate President, Ahmed Lawan charged the confirmed nominees on their responsibility ahead .
He urged them to see their appointment as a call to duty particularly in the coming general elections.
