The 88 -member Assembly of clerics in Iran has named Mojtaba Khamenei,son of the slain leader, Ayotallah Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader.
Ayotallah was killed in the first day of the US- Israel war on Iran.
Mojtaba was named as successor to his father despite warning by the US president, Donald Trump that he would participate in the selection process of a new leadership in Iran.
The new leader was sanctioned by the US in 2019 for representing his father in an official capacity “despite being never elected or appointed to a government position “
The selection was made amid a barrage of attacks on the Islamic Republic by the US and its alliy, Israel on Day 9 of the war..
