
At least 163 worshippers have been abducted by suspected terrorists in Kurmi Wali,Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State,the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory FCT has confirmed.
The Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, disclosed this on Monday evening while confirming the incident to journalists.
The cleric said the worshippers were abducted during Sunday church services at Cherubim and Seraphim Church 1 and Cherubim and Seraphim Church 2 in the community.
According to him ,he received a distress call from the CAN chairman in the affected area, who reported that the attackers stormed the churches while worship was ongoing, locked the gates and forcefully marched the congregants into the surrounding bush.
Rev Hayab explained that eight of the abducted worshippers later managed to escape, but as of Monday, 163 persons remained in captivity.
He praised the efforts of security agencies in search and rescue operations but urged then to do more.
“Security officers are already on top of the matter. We commend their efforts and urge them to do everything possible to rescue our brothers and sisters safely and unhurt in good time,” Hayab said.
The abduction is the latest in the series of abductions by terrorists in Southern Kaduna..
