Says citizenship must be earned through legal means, good character

The Federal Ministry of Interior said Nigeria has received one hundred and seventy citizenship applications from nationals of different countries.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo stated this in Abuja, at a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Nigerian Citizenship, which he chairs.
According to a statement by Mary Ali, Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, Tunji-Ojo emphasized that Nigerian citizenship is a privilege that must be earned through integrity and good character, urging the committee to thoroughly scrutinize all applications.
The Minister stressed that the Federal Government will not tolerate any attempt to acquire Nigerian citizenship through illegal means, adding that legal migration processes must always be respected.
Tunji-Ojo noted that the committee’s work directly supports the government’s vision of national integrity, security, and prosperity.
