The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has revealed that floods so far this year have impacted women and children the most.
Data released on the agency’s dashboard on Friday showed that Imo, Rivers, Abia, Borno, and Kaduna States recorded the highest number of people affected by floods caused by heavy rainfall and surging storm among others
NEMA reported that over 165 lives have been lost, with 82 individuals still missing, and 119,791 people affected overall.
The agency further revealed that 138 individuals sustained various injuries, 43,936 were displaced, 8,594 houses damaged, and 8,278 farmlands destroyed across 43 Local Government Areas in 19 states.
A breakdown of those affected includes 53,314 children, 36,573 women, 24,600 men, 5,304 elderly persons, and 1,863 persons living with disabilities.
The affected states are: Abia, FCT, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Rivers, and Sokoto.
