Hon.Justice Aisha Bashir – Aliyu of the High Court in Lafia has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Ahmadu Yaro, to 21 years in prison for raping a three-month-old baby in Adogi village, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Delivering the judgement on Monday, Justice Bashir – Aliyu who is also the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State described the act as “barbaric, demonic, and a direct attack on the moral conscience of society.”
She said the sentence would serve as justice for the victim and a warning to others.
The incident, which reportedly happened in 2020, sparked nationwide outrage resulting in a conviction after five years of legal proceedings. Yaro will serve the jail term without the option of fine.
The prosecution team was led by the Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi
Barr. Danladi who spoke to journalists afterwards said, “This is a strong message that Nasarawa has zero tolerance for sexual violence. Justice has been served.”
Ahmadu Yaro is expected to serve his sentence in a Nasarawa State correctional facility.
