The Kano State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, has ordered a thorough investigation into the mysterious deaths of two students at the Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi.
This is contained in a statement by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru.
The deceased students, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa, were allegedly attacked by senior colleagues using local metal objects known as “Gwale-Gwale”.
The statement revealed that the commissioner, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bashir Muhammad, said
“It was reported that the brutal act followed a decision taken by some senior students to treat the deceased as punishment for allegedly committing an offence,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary, who was said to have already visited the school, cautioned the students .
“You should avoid taking law into your hands but rather make sure you report any matter of concern to the school authority for appropriate action,”
He sympathised with the families of the deceased and assured that the government would conduct a fair and transparent investigation adding that justice would be served .
Meanwhile, the State Police Command has confirmed the incident saying it has arrested no fewer than 11 SS 3suspects linked to the incident.
The Command said investigation is ongoing and assured that those found culpable will be prosecuted.
