The Governor of Akwa Ibom State,Umo Eno has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party PDP for the All Progressives Congress APC in a ceremony in Government House on Friday in Uyo, the state capital.
The ceremony was attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo – Olu, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Governor Felix Oborevwori of Delta and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo among others.
Announcing his defection,Eno said the defection was the result of wide consultation coming from a position of strength and not weakness
” After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve,I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC.
” We’re not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom State. We’ve come into the APC with a mission of reconciliation ” Eno said.
Eno was elected as Governor of the state in 2023 on the platform of the PDP. He succeeded Udom Emmanuel , his erstwhile godfather, who himself,is a Chieftain of the PDP.
The PDP has been enmeshed in what appears to be irreconcilable internal wranglings since the party held its National Convention in 2022.
States in the South South which were once strongholds of the PDP have witnessed defections of two governors lately, Oborevwori and Eno, confirming the fears that all governors in the region are bound to move to the APC
