Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have busted a cunning drug smuggling attempt at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, involving narcotics concealed in packs labeled as plantain chips.
A statement issued by Spokesman,Femi Babafemi, said:the discovery was made during a routine cargo inspection by vigilant NDLEA officers, who became suspicious of a consignment meant for air transport. Upon inspection, the package, which appeared to contain harmless snacks, was found to be hiding quantities of skunk, a highly potent strain of cannabis.
Babafemi, who confirmed the development in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, wrote,
“Narco-trend update: This consignment was packaged as plantain chips, but inside was a skunk, as discovered by vigilant #ndlea_nigeria officers in one of their latest seizures at Lagos airport,”
He advised members of the public, especially air travelers, to be careful of what they carry for others.
“Always be careful of what you’re given to travel with!”
