
The death has reportedly occurred of Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon.
The late former head of state born in October 1934 hailed from Lur, a small village in the present Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.
.He joined the Nigerian Army in 1954 and was trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England. He rose to the rank of general in 1966 and became the head of state . Gowon led the country in a civil war from 1966-1970 and was overthrown in a bloodless coup in 1975 and replaced with Gen Murtala Muhammed
