Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice have scaled the first hurdle of alleged organ harvesting and conspiracy case filed against them by the British Police as a Westminster Magistrate Court says the kidney donor is 21 and not 15 as previously reported.
The development followed the admission of the donor, David Nwamini Ukpo that he is 21 years old and had been in the UK since February but only presented himself to the police in May.
Counsel for the defendants had also denied allegations of exploitation laid by the victim.
The case was adjourned till August 4 . However, the Ekweremadus are to remain in custody until the next year
A delegation of the Nigerian Senate and the Nigerian High Commission as well as former government officials attended the court session.
They include former Senate President, David Mark, former Senate Minority leader, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa and former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba.
