Ogun government gives local fabric a boost, makes “Adire’ official school uniform for public schools

Starting from next term, pupils and students of all government schools in Ogun State will wear “Adire” as school uniform.
“Adire” is an indigo- coloured cotton fabric produced by Yoruba women in Nigeria’s South West designed with various dye techniques
The State Governor,,Dapo Abiodun, disclosed this on Thursday, at the launch of Ogun Adire Digital Market place at the June 12 Cultural center,Kuto,Abeokuta.
Abiodun said that he plans to make Adire” to be adopted as an aspect of everyday life of the people to empower more people and stimulate the state’s economy.
In his speech, the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, said, the Adire”-Ogun Digital market place would serve as the veritable platform to market local fabrics,create employment and promote national heritage.
He lauded the governmentt for the initiative of popularising Adire” at the global market square adding that it is in line with the federal government’s economic diversification policy.
