Nigeria’s former Finance Minister,Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has emerged the new Director General of the World Trade Organisation( WTO.)
She defeated her challenger, South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee by a wide margin.
Okonjo-Iweala’s emergence makes her the first African and first female to heade the coveted trade organisation.
A reputed economist who has held sensitive offices including the World Bank, Okonjo-Iweala is expected to bring her experience to bear on her new job.
Her emergence came on the heels of block support from European Union, ECOWAS, African Union and others.
Details of her emergence are being expected .
