The Minister of Women Affairs, Pallen Tallen , has reacted to the judgement ordering Senator Elisha Abbo to pay N50MILLION compensation to Osimibibra Warmate, for assault.
In a statement in Abuja, Tallen said the judgement will serve as a deterrent to other male chauvinists be they in high or low places ,who take pleasure in harrassing and maltreating women.
The statement reiterated the determination of all stakeholders to checkmate all incidences of gender -based violence.
She warned that there is no more safe havens for rapists, lady tormentors and other gender- based violators in the country
Senator Abbo had assaulted Warmate ,an attendant of a shop in the Federal Capital Territory in 2019,,a situation which received condemnation from Nigerians against the senator representing Adamawa North
The judgement comes several weeks after a Magistrate Court in Zuba acquitted the lawmaker of charges of assault preferred against him by the police.
In a twist of justice, Justice Samira Bature of the Federal High Court in Abuja, found the Senator guilty and ordered him to pay N50MILLION compensation to the plaintiff.
