US takes steps to review travel ban on Nigeria, lauds progress on information sharing

The United States says Nigeria has made significant progress in addressing the issue of information sharing which was a major reason for US immigrationl ban on Nigeria and other countries.

US Ambassador to Nigeria,Mary Beth Leonard, stated this at the end of a meeting with Nigerian officials to resolve the listing of Nigeria among countries placed on immigration restrictions.

Leonard who also spoke on the proposed ban on those who violate election processes urged such persons to reflect upon that notorious behavior as it”may have the consequences for their ability to travel to the United States.”

On why the identities of election offenders were not made public, She said the US visa processes are confidential and so they do not make public who it is that would be subjected to the sanction.

According to her”an individual who intends to travel or apply for visa would be refused and impeded but it is not something that they advertise, who those individuals are.”
