The Police in Katsina on Thursday, ,arrested an Immigration Officer along with 5 others and seized 164 cows allegedly stolen.
The Immigration Officer,Abubakar Shafiu, and the other suspcts, Mohammed Isah, Ibrahim Mohammed,Idris Mohammed,Usman Mohammed and Saidu Lawal were paraded by the State Police Command.
Shaifu was said to have claimed that the other suspects were his relations based in Zumi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The suspect ,who also claimed to be a staff of procurement department of the NIS in Abuja, said he was on annual leave and that he escorted some truckloads of cattle out of Zamfara before their arrest.
According to him, the cattle were not stolen but were being conveyed to Potiskum and Bunu Yadi in Yobe State by their owners as a result of Bandits activities in Zamfara.
The State Police Public Relations Officer,Gambo Isah,who confirmed the arrest however, said that the suspcts were intercepted on Thursday at about 1.30am at Jibia in Katsina State based on credible intelligence by a combined team of the Nigerian Customs and the police while conveying three truckloads of the suspected rustled cows with Shaifu escorting them.
Isah noted that many cows have been rustled in Katsina and Zamfara states saying that Zumi is a destination of many criminals.
He said” We not relenting,We are going to investigate the souroes of these cows and ensure that anyone of the suspcts found wanting is taken to court”
