As part of measures aimed at containing insecurity in the country, the Federal Government has announced the approval of the sum of N13 billion take off package for community Policing intiatiative.
Consequent upon the development, the National Economic Council (NEC) at its virtual meeting on Thursday, resolved that the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum,(NGF), and two other governors should meet with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Finsnce Minister and the Inspector General of Police to coordinate proper allocation of the funding of the initiative.
The NEC ad-hoc Commitee on Security and Policing had in the meeting presided over by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo,made presentation on it’s assignment stating that discussion with key stakeholders on the operationalization of community policing in the country was ongoing.
The NEC meeting which also had state governors, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,(FCT) , the Central Bank of Nigeria governor and some federal cabinet officials,also received reports on the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country,flood disaster risk management in Nigeria for 2020, and payments for compensation regarding Federal Highway Projects across the country.
In the Covid-19, reports revealed that the World Bank has cleared 35 states in the country for the,$1.5billion stimulus package to cushion the economic effects of the pandemic.
The plan is said to be the World Bank’s package for immediate fiscal relief for Nigeria, following discussion between bank’s Country Director and the Economic Sustainability Committee chaired by Vice President Osinbajo.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa State while briefing State House Correspondents shortly after the meeting said that the 22 states signed the Grant agreement ( GA) while 13 are yet to return signed (.GAs)
Sule said of the 22 states, 16 states had received N100 million grant each totalling N1.6billion.
The states are Ekiti,Gombe,Niger, Sokoto, Taraba,Oyo,Abia,Enugu, Zamfara, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Kwara,Cross Rivers,Imo and Delta.
Plateau,Yobe,Ondo, Benue and Osun states who also signed the GAs are the next in line to receive the grant while Nassarawa is yet to submit account details..
