A Kano High Court has sent a 27 year old woman to psychiatric hospital for slaughtering her 5 year old son to death.
The accused identified as Saratu Ya’u a resident of Sabon Birni village,in Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state, was on Wednesday, arraigned before the court for the murder of her child.
The suspect is facing a count charge of culpable homicide.
Lamido Sorondinki, the prosecuting counsel,had told the Court that Saratu committed the offence on June 12,2018 at Sabon Birmi,Gwarzo.
Sorondinki said Saratu slaughtered her 5 year old son with a sharp knife, like killing a ram,causing his death.
Consequently, the prosecution filed an application before the court in reference to Section 280(1,2,3 and 4) of the Criminal Justice Law 2019
The prosecution said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Penal code and prayed the court to send the defendant to Psychiatric hospital for medical evaluation.
The defendant, pleaded guilty to the charge
Justice Ibrahim Karaye who presided over the trial,ordered the defendant to be referred to psychiatric hospital for medical examination.
