Terrorists linked to the Islamic state of West Africa,on Friday, attacked the convoy of the Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, killing several Security operatives.
According to reports, ,eight Policemen,3 soldiers and four militia said to be government-backed were killed when the terrorists opened fire on vehicles carrying governor Zulum near the town of Baga.
The governor escaped unhurt but security men in his convoy numbering about 15 were said to have been killed in intensed encounter with the terrorists.
An Amoured personal carrier belonging to the police and vehicles belonging to the state government were reportedly carted away by the terrorists.
The governor was on his way to Baga to receive thousands of residents displaced from the town by the terrorists in 2014.
At leastt 3000 Internally Displaced Persons were expected to be transported from IDP camps in both Moguno and Maiduguri on Saturday.
Zulum reportedly flew in a helicopter into the town of Monguno and headed for Baga in convoy under tight security.
The attack on the governor’s convoy is coming barely 3 months after a similar one occurred close to the same location.
The governor was also on a trip to Baga in July when his convoy was attacked by the hoodlums, and that fuelled suspicion and created misunderstanding between the military and the governor .
