Police in the United States have arrested a 31year old Nigerian, Martins Friday accused along with his wife Steincy Mathieu of over 6 million dollar fraud.
They were charged on Tuesday June 23 2020,in New Jersey for conspiracy to comit wire and mail fraud with other conspirators who live in Nigeria.
US Attoney,Craig Carpenito said that the couple and other conspirators met unsuspecting victims on online dating sites and social media websites and corresponded with them through email and phone with the pretence of striking romantic relationships with them.
They would then request victims to send them money for fictitious emergency needs.
Martins has reportedly appeared in court while his 24 year old wife is still at large.
