Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade based in Ohafia, Abia State, have uncovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a security sweep in a forest area of Umuchinma, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.
According to the brigade, the discovery was made during a clearance operation conducted along the Umuchinma pipeline corridor that extends into the forest
Giving details of the operation, the Acting Assistant Public Relations Officer, Captain Mazinho Attah, explained that the explosives were locally assembled with 5kg gas cylinders, nails, water-gel explosives, two detonators, and electrical cables.
Soldiers also found four empty cartridge shells and two bags filled with nails while dismantling a suspected camp linked to criminal elements. The recovery followed actionable intelligence obtained from a suspect currently under investigation, who reportedly admitted to having technical knowledge of explosives.
