
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed its rescue team to the scene of a two-storey building collapse that occurred today, Monday, 27th October, 2025, at 49 Coates Street, by Cemetery, off Oyingbo Road in Lagos State. The incident happened at about 9 a.m.
The Agency in a statement is Monday said it received alerts of the incident and immediately mobilized stakeholders while at the same time deploying rescue personnel from the Lagos Operations Office to the site for prompt response.
So far, thirteen (13) persons have been rescued from the rubble and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute Metta, for medical attention. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to comb the rubble for any other persons who may be trapped beneath the debris.
NEMA said it is working in close coordination with other emergency responders and stakeholders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Nigeria Police, the Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, to ensure an effective and coordinated rescue effort.
It urged residents in the area to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders to facilitate smooth rescue operations. Further updates will be provided as operations progress.
