The Supreme Court has affirmed the nullification of the national convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The convention had produced a national executive led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
A Federal High Court had earlier voided the convention, ruling that it violated the party’s constitution. The court also held that the process was defective due to non-compliance with judicial directives.
The Court of Appeal further upheld the lower court’s decision invalidating the convention .
However, the Apex Court’s judgement on Thursday came through a split decision of a panel of five justices .
Delivering the lead judgement comprising 3 justices , Justice Steven Adah said the PDP erred in disobeying court orders.
One of such orders was the party’s exclusion of the former governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido from participating in the exercise and going ahead with the convention despite a court order restraining the party from doing so.
The Judgement affirming the lower court and appeal courts’ decisions closes further appeal by the Turaki – led faction of the party to seek redress.
