The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has condemned the killing of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, describing it as “cruel and senseless.”
Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, was murdered during an armed robbery incident at her Katampe residence in Abuja in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement that the police had launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Commissioner of Police, Ajao S. Adewale, denounced the killing, saying: “This is a cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late journalist. The Command shares in their grief and is determined to ensure that justice is served,” the statement noted.
He added that security operatives had been mobilised to track the perpetrators.
“I have ordered a discreet and painstaking investigation, with intelligence and operational assets fully deployed. The culprits will be brought to book.”
Our Correspondent reports that the killing of the 29-year-old broadcaster has thrown the media industry into mourning and reignited concerns about insecurity in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
