For disregarding an order of court halting an increase in prices of subscription packages, the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja has fined Multichoice Nigeria Ltd. N150 million.
The three-member tribunal led by Thomas Okosun found Multichoice guilty of contempt for proceeding with the tariff hike despite the interim order issued on April 29.
Ruling on a matter brought before it by Festus Onifade who challenged MultiChoice’s arbitrary price hike without adequate notice, the court also mandated Multichoice to provide a one-month complimentary subscription to all Nigerian subscribers on its platforms.
Meanwhile, MultiChoice has rejected the ruling vowing to file an appeal.
