National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),Dr Iyorcha Ayu on Friday, led the party’s national working committee (NWC) to visit Adolphus Wabara at his residence
Wabara, was appointed the acting board of trustees (BoT) chairman of the party on Thursday following the resignation of Walid Jibrin.
During the meeting, Ayu reportedly asked Wabara to ensure efforts are in top gear for the party’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.
He also asked the acting PDP BoT chairman to reach out to Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, and other “aggrieved” members to foster unity in the party ahead of the 2023 polls.
“I am calling on you to lead in reaching out to our aggrieved members,” Ayu said.
“You have the full support of myself, the candidate (Atiku Abubakar), and the whole NWC to reach out to governor Wike, all the other governors, and any other person who is aggrieved. Plead with them to come back and let’s work together in the PDP family.
“If we don’t win next year, Nigerians will be very disappointed. The hope of Nigeria is on us.
“So, as the new BoT chairman and with your diplomatic experience, we implore you to use your diplomatic skills to reach out to all our aggrieved members.
“It is with your full support, including that of the presidential candidate and the vice-presidential candidate. We are appealing that they should come back and let us work together.”
The PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) had Thursday passed a vote of confidence in Ayu and the NWC, despite calls by the camp loyal to Governor Nyesom Wike for the resignation of the party chairman.
Party members loyal to the Rivers State Governor are demanding Ayu’s resignation as a precondition for ending the crisis in the party .
They are of the view that the national chairman and the presidential candidate cannot be from the same region.
