Another round of commissioning and flag off of flabbergasting projects has begun in Rivers state.
Beginning from Monday eight to Friday, eleventh August,2022, the people of Rivers State will witness the commissioning of five awe – inspiring projects initiated and constructed by the Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike administration.
This time around, four of the projects are cited in Port Harcourt, while the other is in Tai Local Government Area of the state.
They are the Orochiri- Worukwu flyover ,Port Harcourt which is billed to be commissioned on Monday by His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, and the Ogbunabali / Eastern byepass dualized road which will be commissioned Tuesday by the former governor of Sokoto State, His Excellency,Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko
Wednesday is the flag off of the Dualisation of Azikiwe-Iloabuchi Road which will be performed by His Excellency, Olusegun Mimiko, former Governor of Ondo State while the five thousand ( 5000) capacity NYSC auditorium will be commissioned on Thursday by no other than Brigadier General, M.K Faddah, Director – General of the National Youth Service Corps.
The last but not the least of this phase of commissioning is the House of Assembly Quarters. This project will be commissioned on Friday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajiabiamila .
According to American author, Tim Fargo ” Leadership is service, not position”. A life of service for the good of others is a sure way of discovering oneself and finding happiness , German Aviator and a Leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, Dieter Urchtdoff once said.
For sure,Wike epitomizes Leadership, demonstrates strength and character. He is pragmatic ,down to earth.
To him leadership is an exemplary bold service delivery to the people who elected him to serve. In other words, It is not for the gullible or the faint hearted.
For more than seven years now, Wike has taken the provision of basic facilities and service to the local government areas of the state and raising the face of Port Harcourt, the state capital .
Wike had told a live television audience in August 2020 that he would leave no stone unturned in completing the projects and would deliver them before he bows out of office in 2023.
The governor recalled that his sojourn to the world of infrastructure service delivery to the people was borne out of his knowledge of being in the opposition party and not using that as excuse for doing nothing to improve the state.
” When I won election in 2015, I knew I was in opposition . I knew the Federal Government will not execute projects in this state as a result of party politics.
” I cannot also use that as an excuse for non- performance. So I designed a policy of what to do for the State and implement it”.
As a matter of fact,Wike has lived his words, he has provided shelter for Judges, He is constructing roads, most of them completed, and a few nearing completion.
The Rivers Governor is engineering infrastructural development in Rivers and Nigeria as a whole. He is championing the execution and delivery of Flyovers to ease traffic in the hitherto traffic jam destination in Nigeria. And to say that It is the first time in the history of the country in recent years that a state government in opposition is delivering landmark projects for the good of its people is the least and the right thing.
The governor has built Hospitals, transformed existing ones with state of the art facilities. His efforts in stopping the menace of soot that posed daily health challenges to residents led to the discovery of illegal refinery sites and destruction by law enforcement agencies.
Today, those arrested in connection with illegal refineries are cooling off in police cells and facing criminal charges.
Wike the man and governor has seen it all. When he was chairman of Obio/ Akpor local government Council, he delivered projects that endeared him to his people and all who walked through that area. As Minister of Education, He did not only revive dilapidated federal government institutions of learning but thought out of the box and promoted the establishment of more schools and colleges across the states.
Wike is one leader who leaves satisfying impression where ever he goes. Like him or hate him, He is the master of the game, an octopus, whose tentacles cannot be ignored.
In promising to complete all projects, a number of projects are in their advance stages of completion. They include the gigantic and classical Port Harcourt Law School named after the late cerebral lawyer and Federal Attorney General, Nabo Graham Douglas( SAN,) and the brand new additional Flyovers only approved last month .
A good leader walks the talk, His words are taken to the bank. A good leader rekindles the hope and expectations of his people. The people are happy because they can walk and drive on good roads. They are relieved of the burden of many man hours on the road. They are saved from the danger and the costs environmentally- induced health challenges would have placed on them. They are joyful because they have a governor who will stand with them when issues of injustice, inequity and marginalisation are the evil carrots dangled to perpetually subject them to a state of despair and absolute nothingness, which is why he is courted as a beautiful bride by many in the political class from the South East, South West, South South, North Central, North West and North East.. It is also the reason for the mammoth followership he enjoys in the state.
Under Wike, Port Harcourt is developing very fast. The “garden city” is back.No doubt, a first time visitor to the state will obviously rank the state capital number one after a tour of other states.
Wike has done well ,By giving service of this kind to the people he governs, he has succeeded where others failed. By providing services that touch the lives of the people, he has taught a good lesson of how greatness can be achieved. A great personality indeed, he is. History will remember him for this.
That commentary on Governor Wike elevates Rivers to Infrastructural hub was written by Boma Nwuke and broadcast from our studios. Tune in for a repeat broadcast at six o’clock in the evening.
