A Federal High Court on Monday in Abuja said the police have powers to sack any female officers who become pregnant while unmarried.
In a suit filed by the Nigerian Bar Association( NBA) seeking redress after a female police officer, Omolola Olajide in Ekiti was fired for being pregnant out of wedlock,
Justice Inyang Ekwo upheld the decision of the Police Force citing Sections (126 and 127) of the Police regulations which provides information on women before enlistment.
According to the judge, Section 126 approved maternity leave for a married woman while Section 127 recommended dismissal for any unmarried woman who got pregnant out of legal marriage.
